Posture is basically the position we hold our bodies in while sitting, standing and even when lying down.
Posture alignment involves maintaining a balanced and efficient posture that minimizes strain on the muscles, joints, and ligaments, allowing for optimal function and movement.
According to our body, size, weight, shape, proportion, structure our correct posture will be unique to us.
Good posture is a core pillar to maintain overall health just like right eating, restful sleeping, and proper exercise.
Whether it’s the result of sitting at a desk all day, looking down at a smartphone, lounging on a couch or genetics, poor posture is afflicting people of all ages. The ill-effects of these are sometimes not spotted easily.
These are some problems linked to poor posture that may surprise you (most people don’t even know it’s the posture)
Slouching can strain the muscles, ligaments, and joints leading to neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, and headaches.
This can be caused by maintaining a poor posture for extended periods as muscles and ligaments tend to become stiff and tight
The three main curves of a properly aligned spine form an ‘S’ shape.
They are meant to absorb shock, but poor posture can slowly deteriorate this natural ability, putting your back at risk for more serious injury in the future.
Slumping over while sitting compresses the organs in your abdomen. This hinders proper digestion and can cause acid reflux, indigestion, and constipation.
Poor posture can restrict your lung capacity and the expansion of your chest, resulting in shallow breathing patterns.
When you have poor posture, your muscles have to work harder to support your body, leading to muscle fatigue. Additionally, it compresses blood vessels and impedes circulation leading to decreased energy levels.
